Contract For Beach Replenishment Work Will Be Awarded in July

Project includes Manasquan to Belmar and is expected to be completed by beginning of 2014

Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (D 6) announced today that a contract with Army Corps of Engineers for Long Branch to Manasquan beach replenishment will be awarded in July, with work scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2014. The work will be part of the largest beach nourishment project ever undertaken by the Army Corps of Engineers and world's biggest beach-fill project, in terms of sand volume. "Once completed, the greater protective barrier between the coastal communities and the ocean will reduce the risk of flooding and storm related damages," a release from Pallone states. The Army Corps of Engineers will replenish the beach to original design profile, which will make the beach much wider than it was prior to Sandy, Pallone …

I also noticed the leaning lamp posts. How are they not fixed six months after Sandy? How is it that the sand still hasn't been cleared from the beach entrances from the street, yet owners were given a deadline to remove sand from their properties? And looking back, why did it take over THREE HOURS in line to get a permit to visit our own houses, when they finally let us back in after Sandy? It's…   more ›

Hurricane Sandy

Manasquan Pushing for Federal Beach Replenishment

Officials met with state DEP to discuss recent federal legislation to replenish Manasquan Beaches.

How to replenish Manasquan's beachfront is a question that may be answered with the help of the Army Corps of Engineers. After the widespread damage of Hurricane Sandy, Manasquan officials have been pushing hard for assistance to build up its beachfront to levels last seen in the 1990s, when the Army Corps of Engineers replenished the beach. Manasquan officials met recently with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to discuss recent federal legislation, to replenish Manasquan beaches, and expressed optimism at the meetings. The NJ DEP said the Army Corps of Engineers plans to bid out replenishment work, that would restore Manasquan beaches specifically, councilmen said. The project would result in wider beaches for Manasquan, …

This RUINED the beach experience for a few years during and after the replenishment. Cleaner? please, it was dark nasty smelling sand that took years to bleach out in the sun. Safer? By safer you mean the drop off was 10-15 feet deep right off the edge, with all waves breaking right on the beach causing major safety issues for swimmers in even the mildest of surf.   more ›

Record Number of Beach Badges Sold This Month in Manasquan

More than a thousand so far in December, compared with less than 200 last December

Pre-season parking passes have sold out for Manasquan, and an influx of customers have bought pre-season badges. Pre-season prices are in effect through Dec. 28 in Manasquan, and more than a thousand seasonal badges were sold, said Borough Administrator Joseph DeIorio. Compared to Dec. 2011, nearly nine times the number of seasonal badges were sold this month — and the month isn’t over. Manasquan sold 1,380 season beach badges this month. Last December, 178 were sold, DeIorio said. All 600 pre-season parking passes, at $75 each, have sold out already. The beach and parking passes were sold in spite of so many variables still to be decided for 2013 after the damage of Hurricane Sandy. Though Manasquan aims to be ready for the 2013 summer …

This is a true testament that yearly Manasquan "beach goers" believe in our town and that the beach will continue to be the place they want to visit this summer. It will look different I'm sure but will be operational to a certain extent. I thank all for continued support of a beloved town.   more ›
