Squan BOE Looks to Hold Students Accountable All Year

Students would be subject to disciplinary action for summer misconduct

The Manasquan School Board at its Tuesday work session authorized the board attorney to begin drafting changes to the district's student conduct policy that would hold students accountable 365 days per year. After a lengthy discussion started by Board Member Michelle LaSala, the board decided its current policy was too ambiguous and, in order to keep students safe, the policy would be extended to cover pupil conduct throughout the school year and summer. As it stands now, the policy -- known as "Students in Good Standing" -- enables the district to penalize any student caught using, possessing and/or distributing alcohol or other drugs both on and off school premises. The whole policy needs to be re-written. Anyone at any party, even if not drinking loses sports until policy is followed. Suspension, letters.... One bad apple sometimes doesn't .....   more ›
