How Does Crime in Manasquan and Belmar Compare to Neighboring Towns?
NJ Spotlight has created an interactive map of 2011 crime rates in New Jersey.
With many towns along the Jersey Shore small in size, how do the crime rates of Manasquan and Belmar compare to places only a few miles away? NJ Spotlight has created an interactive map using the recently released 2011 Uniform Crime Report that plots the total crime rate per 1,000 people for seven index crimes (four violent -- murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- and three non-violent -- burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft). In Belmar, the overall crime rate per 1,000 residents was 58.5 for 2010 and 51.3 for 2011. When considering violent incidents per 1,000 residents, the crime rate was 4.1 for 2010 and 3.5 for 2011. Overnight crime would be dealt a shattering blow. We suffer to walk the unsafe streets. Until I ask my self that we should give it some thought to prioritize our safety.
