Brick police have released the photograph of a man who they suspect was behind a stabbing at a township nightclub in December. The stabbing incident took place Dec. 23 at the Mansion nightclub in Brick Plaza. "The male victim in this incident was involved in an altercation with an unknown suspect inside the establishment," said Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard. The victim was ultimately stabbed twice with an unknown object, once in the stomach and once in the back, Reinhard said. He was taken to Ocean Medical Center by Brick Police EMS with non-life threatening injuries. Police: suspect rented Sandy victim a Brick Township home he did not own
Brick Township police have charged a Toms River man with swindling a displaced victim of Superstorm Sandy out of money she paid to rent a house he did not actually own. Anthony White, 46, of North Carolina Avenue, was arrested Wednesday, Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard said. The victim, whom police did not identify, had her Brick Township home knocked off its foundation in the storm. On Dec. 3, she posted an advertisement on the Craigslist classified website seeking a temporary rental. She later received a text-message response about a potential rental available on Dogwood Drive. The person sending the text message, who called himself Mr. Dublin, said the home was unlocked, and advised the prospective tenant to enter the home, see if it …

Route 88 bridge will be closed three more nights
The Route 88 bridge in Point Pleasant Borough will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Dec. 19 and 26 and Jan. 2. Like the closure this past Monday and Thursday nights, the upcoming closures are due to the Army Corps of Engineers repairing the corroded steel of the bulkhead along the canal, said Steve Rochette, an Army Corps spokesperson. The repairs are part of work that has been ongoing for months and has nothing to do with Superstorm Sandy, Rochette said.

A family hoisted up in the bucket of a front loader gave a quick wave to neighbors after they were whisked from their home on Port Road. A few blocks away, two men in a kayak – with a small puppy in tow – had just escaped flood waters the old fashioned way: paddling out. Those types of stories played out over and over again Tuesday in Brick, where flooding barely receded after a wall of water came onshore in the hours following the landfall of Hurricane Sandy Monday night. Joel Matos was inspecting neighbors’ homes near Port Road – the same street off Cherry Quay Road where two houses burnt down – and said he had never seen flooding like this before. “Last night, everyone was moving their cars to the ball field,” he said. “Some people …

An eighth Ocean County resident has contracted West Nile virus, according to the county health department Public Health Coordinator Daniel Regeneye said the department received notification of the case this week. The resident, from the southern part of Ocean County, had underlying health conditions. The resident has since recovered, Regeneye said. “Once again, the OCHD is urging people to continue their vigilant efforts against mosquitoes. Even with the cooler weather, mosquitoes are still active. Also, we have had quite a bit of rain, which offers mosquitoes additional breeding areas. With the cooler weather, the OCHD suggests long pants and long sleeves when outside,” Regenye said. The coordinator stressed that citizens should …

Former owners said outside bankruptcy court they want to renovate and re-open
The former owners of Point Pleasant's OB Diner said outside federal bankruptcy court on Tuesday that they plan to take the place back. "We're going to fix it up and re-open it," said Andreas Kaiafas, standing outside a US Bankruptcy courtroom in Trenton with his brother, Antonios Kaiafas; Costas Kaiafas, Antonios' son; who are principles of former owner Tolis, Inc., and their attorney, Anthony A. Boyadjis. Tolis owned the diner from 1983 until July 2005. And how long will it take to "fix it up?" "That depends how nice we want to make it," said Andreas Kaiafas, smiling broadly. "But if we're going to fix it up, we need to be done before the summer." But they can't take it back yet. Christopher Mitchel, president of Point Pleasant Beach …

Fall is a time to explore new areas
Lately, I've been writing frequently in my Friday column about my many trips with my dad fishing near Barnegat Inlet. This week is no different, as we headed out to one of our favorite late-summer areas. But the decision was made to stretch our drifts a bit longer and see what would bite. The decision paid off. By venturing a little closer to some very-familiar–yet-rarely-navigated areas in and around High Bar Harbor and Barnegat Light, we found some interesting holes, deep cuts and grassy areas that were teeming with life. The day produced a mix of a jumbo fluke (that's me holding one in the photo attached to this story), blowfish, sea robins, and more small sea bass than I could count. The tackle was nothing special: just bucktail rigs …

A Brick man who is suspected of fleeing police and jumping into the Manasquan River on Sunday night appeared in Brielle municipal court Wednesday. John B. Benedetto, 46, faces one count of third-degree eluding after he fled from the scene on foot and jumped into the Manasquan River after being approached by borough police investigating reports he was soliciting for a charity, documents show and officials have said. Benedetto was apprehended by the marine division of the State Police just after 9 p.m. Sunday, authorities have said. Along with his daughter, whose name and age have been withheld by police, Benedetto led borough police on a brief manhunt before the pair jumped off the Route 70 bridge to avoid capture, authorities have said. …

Jersey Shore Watercraft Rentals introduces a new product this summer called Jetlev
Anyone who has ever dreamed of flying or walking on water can now turn that dream into a reality. Jersey Shore Watercraft Rentals has unveiled a new product for this summer, called Jetlev. According to JSWR owners Manny Bello and Raymond Cortese, it is the ultimate adrenaline ride. “This thing is great,” Bello said. “We want you to have an experience you will remember and want to come back for.” According to Bello, Jetlev is a jetpack that uses water for thrust. The seat is hooked up to an engine that works like a reverse jet ski. Instead of pushing the water out, the engine sucks water in and forces in through the hose and out of the nozzles. Riders are able to fly up to 35 mph and go as high as 30 ft. in the air. First time riders will …
