Borough Hall will be closed for the day
The Borough of Belmar is observing a holiday Tuesday for Lincoln's birthday and will close municipal offices Feb. 12. Borough Hall, Main Street, will be closed for the holiday. Construction along Ocean Avenue is expected to continue in spite of the holiday at 7 a.m. Though not a national holiday, Lincoln's Birthday is still observed in many locations, with local offices shuttered for the day. Though Belmar is closed, Manasquan offices are open. Belmar offices will reopen Wednesday. President's Day, Feb. 18, offices will also be closed.

As of this Sunday, Dec. 9, all Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster recovery centers opened in the wake of superstorm Sandy will be closed on Sundays, officials said Friday morning. This includes the center in Belmar, located in borough hall. Additional FEMA disaster recovery centers are located in Long Branch, Bay Head, Brick, Leonardo and Union Beach. The centers will remain open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., officials said. Applicants may go to any recovery center, even if it is in another state, officials said. Once an application is made and a number is issued, the file can be accessed nationally, officials said. It is not necessary to visit a center to receive disaster assistance, officials said. I hope a lot of these people backed up there important computer files with disaster recovery cloud-based services. I am sure a lot of businesses in the area have, but for the small family homes, it is more than likely that a lot of vital information was lost. more ›
