Belmar's Crime Rate Dips Overall for Violent, Nonviolent Offenses

2011 data released shows one crime category increased: aggravated assaults, with four more than previous

Belmar saw fewer incidents of violent and nonviolent crime in 2011 versus 2010, according to state crime statistics released recently. In 2010, incidents totaled 339. The number of incidents dropped to 297 in 2011, according to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Only a small portion of those incidents were considered violent crimes in categories such as aggravated assaults. Violent crime in Belmar dropped over 2010: there were four fewer incidents of violent crime in 2011 with 20 incidents reported. That created a crime rate per 1,000 residents: 58.5 for 2010 and 51.3 for 2011. When considering violent incidents per 1,000 residents, the crime rate was 4.1 for 2010 and 3.5 for 2011.
