Recovered Sail Spurs Rescue Search

Authorities searching for possible missing person after kiteboarding sail washes ashore in Bradley Beach

Rescue workers are scrambling to find the owner of a kiteboarding sail that washed ashore at Bradley Beach's Fourth Avenue on Friday afternoon. Authorities worry that the owner of the apparatus may be lost in the Atlantic Ocean somewhere south of Asbury Park. "The information's a little sketchy at this point," Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard Guida said. Guida explained that the brightly colored sail was spotted in the ocean off Asbury Park and was blown quickly southward by hard, northerly winds. The sail was eventually brought in at Bradley Beach's Fourth Avenue and an immediate search effort was mounted. No person has been reported missing and while the possibility exists that the sail was not in use by a kiteboarder when it became …

Body Found Floating Off Avon

Coast Guard transport dead, floating body to Shark River Station

A body was discovered floating in the Atlantic Ocean in Avon-by-the-Sea near the Shark River bridge by fishermen, authorities reported on Tuesday. The body, which was spotted drifting in the water by Avon-by-the-Sea police around 5:30 p.m., was transported by U.S. Coast Guard boat to the Shark River Coast Guard Station in Avon around 6 p.m. The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office arrived on the scene to investigate the death. Search for Missing Swimmer Off Bradley Beach Continues

Naisere Nelson, 15, of Neptune still missing

The search for a swimmer who went missing off Bradley Beach continues this morning.  Authorities have gathered on the beach at Brinley Avenue to assist local and Coast Guard dive teams and boats in their search for 15-year-old Naisere Nelson of Neptune.  Friends and family of the boy have again gathered on the sand at Bradley Beach, where the scene has taken a decidedly more somber tone as what was once a rescue mission becomes a recovery mission. Nelson went missing Thursday evening before 6 p.m. He had apparently been swimming when he and two others nearby became distressed. The other two swimmers, identified by authorities as Victor Pierez and Stephanie Crespo, 27 and 28, of Elizabeth, were able to reach shore and were treated for water…

Search for Missing Swimmer Off Bradley Beach Hampered by Weather

Possibility of severe thunderstorms threatens search effort

Friends and family of a boy who went missing while swimming off Bradley Beach's Brinley Avenue kept vigil on the boardwalk Thursday evening as severe storms swept through the area. "We have to keep looking. We have to keep looking," a tearful onlooker said as the low rumble of distant thunder echoed across the oceanfront. Some found shelter from the storm under awnings and crouched next to buildings while others embraced silently in the rain. Many shed tears. Others were left in silent disbelief. The wind whipped and the rain began to pour as a lone man stood on the beach and stared out across the sand and ocean at the emergency light of a storm tossed Coast Guard vessel. Local authorities have suspended the search for the 15-year-old …
