Belmar Tree Lighting Moves to Tonight

Rescheduled due to rainy weather

Editor's Note: The date is corrected after being rescheduled from Friday to Dec. 11. The tree is ready, the weather just has to cooperate. Belmar's tree lighting is now scheduled for today, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. after a rainy day pushed the holiday event back. The tree lighting, originally scheduled for last Friday, was temporarily rescheduled for Dec. 14 before deciding last night to switch to Tuesday, Dec. 11. Mayor Matt Doherty announced the weather had compromised the tree lighting last Friday, and the borough is hoping for a better forecast as Christmas approaches. Tonight, residents can converge on Pyanoe Plaza, 9th Ave and Main Street, in Belmar to ooh and ahh as the borough flips the switch on its evergreen. The event is expected to …

Freeholders Join in Tree Lighting at Hall of Records

The Christmas tree in front of county offices in Freehold Borough has been lit.

While the weather on Tuesday did not feel very Christmas like, Freehold Borough got into the holiday spirit with the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Hall of Records. Residents gathered outside the Hall of Records along with the Rock N Roll Chorus, radio personalities from the Breeze-FM and local elected officials to witness the town Christmas tree light up. The tree, decorated by Freehold Girl Scout Troop 2780 had a hurricane relief theme this year along with their traditional “green” ornaments. “There are a total of 300 ornaments on the tree this year,” said a Girl Scout Troop 2780 spokesperson. “The ornaments are all made from recycled materials and have a Hurricane Sandy theme to them.
