Spring Lake Heights Police See 10 Accident Calls Over Month

Police blotter as released by Officer Zachary Ramp: During April, the Spring Lake Heights Police responded to 728 calls for service.  Among them were 36 EMS calls, 10 Motor Vehicle Accidents and 10 Fire calls.  Arrests include: April 4 at 3:00pm Daniel Dolan, 21 of Spring Lake Heights was arrested for three counts of possession of narcotics(heroin, Oxycodone and Suboxone), possession of drug paraphernalia and Disorderly Conduct following a stop in the 200 block of Hwy 71.  Det. Michael Matunas made the arrest. April 28, 2013 at 10:24pm a 17 year old juvenile from Brielle was taken into custody for possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol under the legal age, possession of open alcohol in a vehicle …

Brush Fire Behind Route 71 in Spring Lake Heights

Bamboo ablaze in afternoon fire

A significant brush fire torched some bamboo growing behind Spring Lake Heights homes on Route 71. The brush fire overtook a 100 by 150 foot area of bamboo after 1 p.m., reported the Spring Lake Heights Fire Department. Around 1:30 p.m. the fire had been knocked down and the emergency responders were overhauling the area to make sure all hot spots had been extinguished. The brush fire slowed traffic along Route 71 during the emergency response.

Spring Lake Heights Police Respond to Unregistered Solicitor, Find Deported Felon

Union City man allegedly found illegally soliciting

A Union County man was arrested after Spring Lake Heights Police allegedly found the 24 year-old soliciting business without registering, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant and was previously deported. Spring Lake Heights Officer Zachary Ramp said Ormandy J. Sierra, 24, of Union City, was arrested Feb. 26 after police responded to a complaint of unregistered solicitors. Spring Lake Heights, like many other towns, requires door-to-door salespersons be registered with town hall first. Ramp said an on-scene investigation led to the arrest of Sierra, who was found to have an oustanding criminal warrant. Sierra was also found to have been a previously deported felon and in the United States illegally. Police did not release details on…

Police: Manasquan Man found in Freehold with Stolen Car

Freehold Township Police and Spring Lake Heights Police arrested a Manasquan resident on multiple charges surrounding a stolen vehicle incident.

The Freehold Township Police Department and the Spring Lake Heights Police department have charged a Manasquan man with car theft.  Michael C. Gratzel, 18, of Wigwam Patch, faces a total of three charges from both police departments. Freehold Township police charged Gratzel with possession of a stolen car while Spring Lake Heights police charged Gratzel with burglary and theft after he allegedly broke into a structure and took a 2001 four-door Acura. According to Gratzel’s complaint warrant, the car was taken from Spring Lake Heights on Saturday, March 16. Freehold Township police arrested Gratzel on Monday, March 18 when he was in the township with the stolen vehicle. Gratzel has been remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional …

Smoke Condition Evacuates Spring Lake Heights Elementary School

Issue with roof Wednesday, no injuries reported

Spring Lake Heights Elementary students and staff were evacuated Wednesday after a smoke condition unfolded from the school roof. Independent Fire Company #1 reported the problem was with a roof-mounted HVAC unit that created a smoke condition after noon Wednesday. The fire alarm sounded sending school children and staff outside as emergency responders investigated the smell of smoke, and the rooftop unit was secured. No injuries were reported and all students were returned to their classes after the building was cleared, reported Independent Fire Company #1. The kindergarten through 8th grade school is on Route 71 and Brighton.

Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Charges of Teenage Passengers for Alcohol, Drugs, Warrant

A traffic stop of an SUV with seven teenage occupants led to charges for five people in the vehicle, Spring Lake Heights police said. Ptl. Kenneth Hager stopped the vehicle and allegedly found open container of alcohol, drugs, and under-age passengers — one of whom had an outstanding warrant. The Audi SUV was stopped 11:30 p.m. March 1 for motor vehicle violations on Route 71, Officer Zachary Ramp said. The driver, Ellen R. Multiple Teens Among Those Arrested for DWI Sunday

Spring Lake Heights Police made several arrests for drugs and alcohol over the weekend, including a report of a teen erratically riding a bicycle, and a 16 year-old unlicensed driver allegedly in possession of drugs while driving under the influence. Each of the arrests were on Route 71. Officer Zachary Ramp of Spring Lake Heights Police said the arrests were made March 3, with one coming at 1 a.m. for a 16 year-old riding erratically down Route 71 on a bicycle. Police responded to the 300 block of Route 71 for a report of a juvenile on a bike without a helmet, riding erratically at 1 a.m. Sunday. Ptl. Woman Arrested During Municipal Court, Charged With Drug Possession

Spring Lake Heights police charge Middletown woman

Spring Lake Heights Police said a woman allegedly showed up to her municipal court date with drug paraphernalia in her possession, leading police to arrest the Middletown resident after a security detail. Spring Lake Heights Officer Zachary Ramp said Noemi R. Reines, 28, of Middletown, was originally in court that day to answer a traffic-related summons. Those entering the court room must pass a security check, which allegedly found a controlled dangerous substance on Reines, Ramp said. "Sgt. Andrew O’Neill discovered the items while searching personal belongings during a Municipal Court security detail," Ramp said.
