Grammar school team joined New York Red Bulls on field for MLS opening ceremony
The St. Rose Grammar School boys soccer team got a taste of the "big leagues" last week when it lined up alongside the New York Red Bulls on the field of their northern New Jersey arena, officials said. The Major League Soccer (MLS) team invited the St. Rose boys to kick off their 2012 season in style, letting the youngsters participate in their Sept. 19 opening ceremonies on the field at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, according to school spokesperson Kristi Gorman. The sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders, donning Red Bulls uniforms, also stood alongside the professional players during the National Anthem before a crowd of more than 10,000, Gorman said. School Board will vote on proposed contract next week
For the second time in as many months, the Manasquan School Board next week is expected to vote on a proposed deal with The Atlantic Club (TAC) that would allow the High School's boys and girls varsity soccer teams to play their home games at the facility's turf field. Last month the board voted down the proposal, as a majority of members cited concerns with the availability of an athletic trainer at the Wall sports club, which currently has none on staff. Those concerns were alleviated on Tuesday when officials reported that the club's ownership was pursuing the hiring of a full-time athletic trainer in time for the fall sports season. The Point Boro H.S. graduate gets another gold in what is her last Olympics
The US Women's Soccer team, including Point Borough High School graduate Christie Rampone, gets the gold in an Olympic re-match with Japan. The game, aired on NBC Sports, Ch. 69 on Comcast, just ended (4:36 p.m.). Team members are pulling on white T-shirts that say "Greatness Has Been Found" and posing for photos with the American flag. Rampone, clutching a corner of a flag, ran across the field, with a teammate holding the other side of the country's banner. The U.S. Women's National Team now has its fourth gold medal and third straight. Hundreds of children, parents and soccer supporters will gather to cheer on U.S. Olympic Soccer Team Captain Christie Rampone, of Manasquan, at a pep rally at Jersey Shore Medical Center on Tuesday, June 26. Rampone, a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School, is also the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center spokesperson and will need the support as she heads to London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Manasquan's Christie Rampone teams up with Jersey Mike's Subs for ad campaign
Locally-bred U.S. women's soccer star Christie Rampone has teamed up with Jersey Mike's Subs to provide a series of free instructional videos for kids on the sub chain's website, according to a company release. The first in a series of 10 instructional videos is expected to go live on the Jersey Mike's website on Tuesday, May 1, and each week a new video will be posted leading up to Rampone's appearance at the summer games in London, the release says.
