Several disaster centers in New Jersey will cease operations due to a steady decrease in activity, the U.S. Small Business Administration recently announced. The SBA is encouraging those impacted by Hurricane Sandy to visit the centers before they close. The deadline to return applications for physical damage is Wednesday, May 1. Employees who suffered losses during Hurricane Sandy have one week to register with FEMA for assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is encouraging business owners to remind their Hurricane Sandy-impacted employees to register for disaster assistance before the application deadline expires in just one week. In terms of individual assistance, FEMA is and has provided grants to cover rental assistance, home repairs and replacement of essential household items not covered by insurance. Assistance grants may also be available to help replace personal property destroyed during the storm and to help meet medical, dental, funeral, transportation, and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other funding sources. The administration has made 16,800 loans since the hurricane hit New Jersey.
In just three months since Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast, the U.S. Small Business Administration has approved more than $1.1 billion in disaster loans to residents and business owners affected by the storm. According to a release from the SBA, approximately 16,700 individuals have received loans, making Sandy the country's third largest disaster in terms of loaned dollars. Currently, Sandy sits behind 2005's Hurricane Katrina and its $10.8 billion in SBA loans, and 1994's Northridge, Calif., earthquake, which totaled $4 billion in loans. You are eligible for low-interest loans from the government's primary source for funding, replacing and rebuilding businesses, non-profits, homes and apartments, through the U.S. Small Business Administration. UPDATE: New location: White Sands, Point Beach
The Small Business Administration (SBA) and FEMA will explain how businesses damaged by Sandy should apply for financial assistance at a meeting on Monday at the White Sands. The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce are welcoming business owners and managers from across Ocean and Monmouth counties to attend the session from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the White Sands, 1205 Ocean Ave., Point Beach. Individuals in every New Jersey county are now eligible to apply for federal disaster relief, the governor's office announced Tuesday. All residents and businesses can now apply for Individual Assistance through FEMA and the Small Business Administration. The state had already been approved for Public Assistance, which is available to state and local governments as well as nonprofits. Individual Assistance relief allows residents to apply for aid including temporary housing, repair, Disaster Unemployment Assistance and Small Business Administration loans.
