Wall Runner: 'They Had Time to Plan It'

Krissy Suckow finished Boston Marathon about 20 minutes before bomb went off

Krissy Suckow, who ran in the Boston Marathon on Monday, had time on the drive home to the Jersey Shore to think about how someone planned the bombing that left three dead, including an 8-year-old child, and at least 141 wounded. "They had a 5K race the day before set up on the marathon course," Suckow said, as she rode in her father's car as he drove them home to Wall on Monday evening. "The finish line and everything were all set up for the marathon the next day, so anyone could see the whole course the day before and plan exactly where they wanted to do this," said Suckow, 29, a seventh and eighth grade teacher at Rahway Academy in Union County. Route 88 Bridge to Stay Open Tonight

Plan to close bridge in Point Pleasant cancelled due to high winds

The Route 88 bridge will remain open tonight, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT). The original plan was for the bridge to be closed tonight until 5 a.m. Friday so a contractor for the Army Corps of Engineers could do work. However, "due to higher than normal winds they will not be working tonight and therefore the expected closure of the Rt 88 drawbridge will not be necessary tonight," according to a statement the DOT released Thursday night. Work will be done sometime after New Year's Day.

JCP&L Readies for Sandy

Utility cautions that using generators can be dangerous

JCP&L is getting ready for Hurricane Sandy, with extra staff on standby and a lot of lessons learned. JCP&L clearly has not forgotten the criticism it took after Tropical Storm Irene ravaged New Jersey in August 2011. Utility officials learned from it, made a wide array of improvements in technology, communications and planning and they're ready to put that to the test, said JCP&L spokesman Ron Morano. "We've made improvements to how we provide customer information," Morano said, adding the company is doing all it can to prepare for Sandy and to plan on how to keep officials and residents informed and well-served. For starters, JCP&L is doing what everyone else is doing: closely watching weather forecasts, trying to figure out when and …

OB Diner For Sale, Closed Temporarily

Local landmark filed for bankruptcy

The OB Diner in Point Borough had filed for bankruptcy, is up for sale and may be sold to its former owners. The popular local landmark, at Richmond Avenue and Route 88, has been dark and empty the last few days and there's a handwritten sign on the door that says "Closed, Will Re-open Soon." The Ocean Bay, or OB, Diner has not been sold yet, said Sandy Keeton, a Realtor handling the listing at the Point Pleasant office of Coldwell Banker Commercial Riviera Realty Inc. When asked to confirm a rumor that former owners are buying back the diner, Keeton said, "If that's what they told you" but would not elaborate. She would only confirm that Christo & Demetri LLC is still the owner. That name is also listed as the owner of the OB property, …

The food was good at one time. Has been declining the last few years. The last time we went to eat they're the food was awful and everyone in my family the next day had stomach aches and we all had something different. It even started to look shabby. To bad because I remember going out after the clubs for hamburgers. There is that new diner at the corner of arnold and 35n that is pretty good.   more ›
