Countdown to Memorial Day

Countdown to Memorial Day As Belmar Installs Boardwalk Railings, Bathrooms

Photo gallery of construction leading up to grand reopening

The signs along the Belmar beach and boardwalk still say "Closed," but not for much longer. Less than a week remains until the ribbon-cutting on the Belmar beach and boardwalk. This week, the beachfront bustled with final touches on the four beach playgrounds, striping along Ocean Avenue and installation of boardwalk railings.  Temporary trailers will be in place for concessions, and bathrooms. Though a lighting design is approved, if the project is not complete the use of alternative, temporary spotlights will be in place to light up the boardwalk, officials said. Here is a gallery of all the recent activity along the beachfront.

PHOTOS: Snow Scenes Around Belmar

Light snow looks pretty, but be careful of slippery roads

This gallery around Belmar and Avon Friday creates a pretty scene of the area's light snowfall blanketing tree limb, mail box and boardwalk piling.  Check out these photos from Belmar resident Paul Spennrath, and consider uploading your own images from this morning's snow to the gallery. Accumulations less than 3 inches are forecast with weekend sun expected to not keep the snow around long. Could this be our last snowfall of the season? Here's what 8th Avenue and B street looks like, as well as First and Ocean and the Silver Lake. In Avon near Lincoln and Ocean Avenues, a snowy scene under boardwalk construction.

Christie, gas line breaks, accidents and more

A gallery from the past week out of the Manasquan, Belmar areas. Rebuilding continues to rule the day, but breaking news such as a gas line break and pedestrians struck in Belmar made for an eventful week.  Here's also some photos of the everyday experience as we crawl through the long winter here at the Jersey Shore. Do you have pictures to share? Upload them to the gallery here.
