18-year-old Bayonne man failed to resurface yesterday afternoon
Emergency personnel have resumed their search for a young man who disappeared into the surf Wednesday afternoon off the O Street beach. Seaside Park lifeguards are on full-time duty today, just one day after Bestavros Faris, 18, Bayonne, went into the water off the unguarded beach with three other friends around 3 p.m. All four got into trouble, but Faris was the only one who didn't make it back to shore, Patrolman Steven Shadiack said. A resident who lives on O Street saw the four youths on the beach before the incident occurred, Shadiack said. "He watched them on the beach for a short time," he said. "One stayed ankle-deep. The others went from ankle-deep to waist-high, then chest-high. The wave came. Three went under the water and only …

Possibility of severe thunderstorms threatens search effort
Friends and family of a boy who went missing while swimming off Bradley Beach's Brinley Avenue kept vigil on the boardwalk Thursday evening as severe storms swept through the area. "We have to keep looking. We have to keep looking," a tearful onlooker said as the low rumble of distant thunder echoed across the oceanfront. Some found shelter from the storm under awnings and crouched next to buildings while others embraced silently in the rain. Many shed tears. Others were left in silent disbelief. The wind whipped and the rain began to pour as a lone man stood on the beach and stared out across the sand and ocean at the emergency light of a storm tossed Coast Guard vessel. Local authorities have suspended the search for the 15-year-old …
