Runners Hit Pavement in Lake Como for Great Cause

The annual George McCormack 5k hit Lake Como Sunday

Though the rain washed most of this past Sunday away, nearly 150 individuals took advantage of the beautiful morning in Lake Como, as they participated in the 8th annual George McCormack 5k run. This event began and ended at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como. Runners took off from right outside the establishment, ran through the borough and around the actual lake in Lake Como, and returned to Bar A five kilometers later. The run is dedicated to George E. McCormack, who was the captain of the Lake Como Police Department when he died on July 26, 2004. He was just 44 years old when he died of a heart attack. Hundreds Turn Out for Bradley Beach 5K

Ideal conditions draw runners to 14th annual race

No rain, no clouds, temperatures in the low 60s and low humidity. Runners couldn’t have asked for more optimum conditions to take on the 14th Annual Bradley Beach 5K Run held Saturday. The 3.1-mile run drew close to 750 runners to a course down Ocean Avenue at its start and finish, through the streets of Bradley, and around Fletcher Lake. The overall winner with a time of 16:16 was Richard Angelillo, 33, of Philadelphia, who summers in the area close to his in-laws who live in West Allenhurst. “It’s a beautiful course. The weather today is gorgeous – sun, no rain,” Angelillo said. “We were in a pack of five, then slimmed down to a pack of three, then just two of us, and I pulled out in front at mile 2 ¼.” Not far behind Angelillo was the …

Belmar Five Coming Saturday

Annual road race hits the borough on July 9

Race day is coming to Belmar yet again. On Saturday, July 9, the annual Belmar Five Mile Run will take place for the 35th time.  Each year, the borough of Belmar and the Belmar's Goodwill Hose Fire Company, working with the Jersey Shore Running Club, organize and execute the event which sees thousands of harriers wind through borough streets on a Saturday morning every July. The event is part of the Jersey Shore Grand Prix, a series of summer road races held across the area, and is one of the Shore's longest running races. The event typically brings out great running talent from across the state and beyond.
