Irish Festival Returns Saturday

Thousands will celebrate Irish heritage in Sea Girt

Over 10,000 people are expected to be in attendance at the 2011 Irish Festival at the Jersey Shore this Sunday in Sea Girt. From start to end, there will be an array of activities for all ages including cultural events, music, food, history and more. Held at Sea Girt National Guard Armory, chairman and one of the organizers of the event Jack Sullivan, said his organization that hosts the event— the Ancient Order of Hibernians (Middletown Chapter) transforms the Armory into “a beautiful Irish village.” “We have three stages of music going on all day long and have Irish Step Dancing, Ceili Dancing, a Civil War Reenactment in the morning, mass with a Catholic priest,” Sullivan said. “We have an Irish language class— all the kids come and get …

Movies on the Beach Offer No Cost Summer Entertainment

Up and down the Jersey Shore, movie fans are enjoying outdoor entertainment.

Movies on the beach are sweeping the Jersey Shore as a popular, no cost, relaxing way to spend a summer night. It’s a Thursday night in Asbury Park and the 2nd Avenue Beach is packed with people on their blankets and in beach chairs. The Goonies is playing on the big screen which stands on the beach along the boardwalk across from Langosta Lounge. “It’s a classic childhood movie and it’s free and that’s the coolest thing ever,” said Asbury Park resident Jason Degruttola. “It’s one of the most innovative things that the Jersey Shore has done.” Mike Barrella of Bayville is arriving late, about 10 minutes into the movie. Sea Girt 5k: For the 20th year, Sea Girt will host its annual 5k race. This year's running will feature a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Crowds Come Out for Final Day of Manasquan Fireman’s Fair

Annual fundraising event at Mallard Park proves to be a favorite

Young and old, male and female flocked to Mallard Park July 30 to enjoy the final night of the Manasquan Fireman’s Fair sponsored by Manasquan Volunteer Engine Company No. 2. During its five-day run, the fair drew tens of thousands for its wild – and some tame – rides, games-of-chance, a super 50/50, huge assortment of foods, and beer tent. “We enjoy putting on this event for the public and hope everyone can come out and take advantage of what we have to offer. It was an institution in Manasquan, and it basically ended in the late 80s, and we brought it back and revived it in 1998. Highlights from the opening night of the Monmouth County Fair at East Freehold Showgrounds on Kozloski Road included Robinson's Racing Pigs and Paddling Porkers, a busted hose competition featuring fire departments from across the county, a lumberjack show and fireworks. The annual agricultural fair is sponsored by the Monmouth County Parks System and the Monmouth County 4-H Association. Each day of the fair, which runs through Sunday, July 31, features educational activities at the Home and Garden Tent, the Living History Tent and the 4-H Show Tent.
