Aficiandos of Hess toy trucks can rest assured that Christmas sales of their toy trucks will continue at the corporation's convenience stores.
Recent headlines announcing Hess Corporation's exit from the energy marketing and refining end of its global business will not affect what is perhaps its second-most-coveted consumer item after the petrol: the Hess Toy Truck. "The toy trucks which have been a tradition for 48 years will continue," a Hess spokesperson said, adding that "this November, the company will continue to sell the trucks at their stores." Since 1964, Hess Corporation has sold its classic toy trucks; offering a variety of collectible miniature trucks to consumers at the start of the holiday season each year in November. Rescheduled due to rainy weather
Editor's Note: The date is corrected after being rescheduled from Friday to Dec. 11. The tree is ready, the weather just has to cooperate. Belmar's tree lighting is now scheduled for today, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. after a rainy day pushed the holiday event back. The tree lighting, originally scheduled for last Friday, was temporarily rescheduled for Dec. 14 before deciding last night to switch to Tuesday, Dec. 11. Mayor Matt Doherty announced the weather had compromised the tree lighting last Friday, and the borough is hoping for a better forecast as Christmas approaches. 80-foot Norway spruce cut from Mount Olive man's property.
One foot for every year. The Christmas tree being used for the 80th annual Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting ceremony is an 80-foot tall Norway spruce that came down on Flanders-Drakestown Road in Mount Olive on Tuesday morning. This tree's felling was the first in weeks to be celebrated, rather than lamented, as the 10-ton tree wasn't part of the damage sustained during the recent visit by Hurricane Sandy. Joseph Balku, the Mount Olive resident who owns the property the tree resided on, said the Nov. 12 festivities were the culmination of a whirlwind two months. "They called me two months ago," Balku said. "And three weeks ago they told me my tree was selected and I was happy to donate it." The street Balku lives on still shows scars …

Santa will be at the Bennett Log Cabin Sat. and Sun.
If you love Santa Claus and trains, head to Riverfront Park on Saturday or Sunday. Santa brings his workshop to the Bennett Log Cabin from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for "an old-fashioned Christmas," according to Richard Morris, who led the volunteer effort to move and rebuild the historic home. Visitors can enjoy Santa, his trains, antique and wooden toys and more. The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce will be serving hot cocoa and cookies. The park is at the corner of River Road and Maxson Avenue, on the Manasquan River, in Point Borough.
