The Foster's Belmar Pro surfing contest kicked off on Thursday. The professional surfing competition is the center of a full weekend's worth of events including art shows, parties and live music.

Art Show Benefits Hannah Pro

A warm night of art, music, food and a movie in Belmar

The Hannah Pro Art Show fundraiser was held Wednesday night at Belmar Plaza to benefit the Women’s Surf Division of the Belmar Pro. “We are raising money to support women surfers in memory of my daughter (Hannah Yarnold),” said the event’s organizer, Brenda Yarnold of Belmar. According to Brenda Yarnold, Hannah Yarnold became involved with a bad crowd and drugs. She died two days before her 19th birthday. “We are doing this as awareness for women to find their passion through surfing and the arts,” said Yarnold. Yarnold wants women to realize that they have all the creative power inside of them and to follow their dreams. Belmar Pro Surf Contest Begins

Weekend of events accompanies surfing competition

The Belmar Pro returns to the Jersey Shore this weekend and promises to be bigger than ever. Thus far, the surf conditions forecasted are less than ideal. Swellinfo.com is calling for wave heights in the 3 foot range on Thursday with slightly bigger waves on Friday afternoon. Conditions could get sloppy on Saturday with predicted north-northeast winds on Saturday. The finals could prove especially challenging with wave heights to fall to 2 feet and north winds to continue. Belmar Pro Amateur Competition Concludes

Division winners will move on to compete in next weekend’s Pro competition

Sunday concluded the two day amateur surf competition in Belmar— a segment of the Belmar Pro series. The competition gave amateur surfers the opportunity to compete for a spot in the pro competition that is being held next week on 16th Avenue Beach in Belmar. Sunday did not bring the best of weather or waves for the nearly 100 competitors who competed in five different divisions, but despite the conditions, competitors fought their way through for a spot in the Pros. According to Mark Sisom, creative director of the Belmar Pro, the winner of each division of the amateur gets a slot in the pros in its corresponding division.
