Freehold Apple Store Customers Memorialize Steve Jobs

Post-It were left on the store's wall the day after Apple founder's death

The Macintosh sign was left dark outside the Freehold Raceway Mall Apple Store Thursday. According to a Freehold Apple Store employee, locations across the country did not light their iconic signs in remembrance of Steve Jobs, the company’s co-founder who died of pancreatic cancer on Wednesday. Post-It pads and pens were placed in front of the Freehold store to allow Apple employees and customers to write notes about Jobs. About 50 notes were tacked up to the glass door and an apple and a battery-lit candle were left outside the store. Several passers-by took photos of the display with iPhones, a device Jobs introduced to the world in 2007. One note read: “Steven, you changed my life and the lives of millions. Bruce Springsteen Eulogizes Clarence Clemons

The Boss pays tribute to the Big Man

On June 21, Bruce Springsteen spoke at the funeral of his friend, confidant and E Street Band comrade Clarence Clemons in Palm Beach, Fla. Earlier today, Springsteen released the following on his website: This is a slightly revised version of the eulogy I delivered for Clarence at his memorial. I'd like to thank all our fans and friends who have comforted us over the past difficult weeks. FOR THE BIG MAN I've been sitting here listening to everyone talk about Clarence and staring at that photo of the two of us right there. It's a picture of Scooter and The Big Man, people who we were sometimes. As you can see in this particular photo, Clarence is admiring his muscles and I'm pretending to be nonchalant while leaning upon him. I leaned on …

Manasquan Honors Thomas Carroll

Long-time borough resident remembered for his spirit of volunteerism

Mayor George Dempsey recalled fondly his late friend Thomas Carroll as he read aloud a mayoral proclamation declaring April 18 Thomas Carroll Remembrance Day in the borough of Manasquan. "He was a good friend and he did so much for Manasquan as a volunteer," a tearful Dempsey said during Monday's meeting of the Mayor and Council. Carroll died on March 24 at the age of 73 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. A native of North Jersey, Carrol resided in Fair Lawn during the year and spent summers in Manasquan until 1999, when his retirement after 25 years at Essex Management Corporation in Newark brought him to the Jersey Shore full-time. Jack Watson Did More Than Volunteer; He Broke New Ground

Watson, 78, of Point Beach, who died Feb. 28, was the Point Boro Key Club advisor, and helped set up recycling in the area

Jack Watson never wanted anything to be merely ordinary - even if it was an ordinary old school club. When he took over the Key Club at Point Boro High School some 40 years ago, he wanted it to do more than hold cake sales or roll cotton candy at the Seafood Fest. Watson was known to be modest, so he would never put down anybody who did the car washes and the tricky-trays. It's just that, well, Jack, always wanted more. Watson, 78, who died Feb. 28 at his Point Beach home, helped turn the Point Boro Key Club - which was affiliated with the Kiwanis organization - into one of the most successful in the country. This Key Club did more than raise money - and it raised a lot. The Key Club helped set up one of the state's first regularly …
