Help 'Makeover' Belmar Saturday

Mayor, council and other volunteers cleaning up town parks and streets

Belmar's mayor and Borough Council are inviting volunteers to join them "makeover" the borough's parks and streets Saturday, May 19, beginning at 9 a.m., officials said. 

Mayor Matt Doherty is asking volunteers to meet on the steps of Belmar Elementary School on Main Street between Tenth and 11th Avenues, rain or shine, at 9 a.m. sharp. The town-wide cleanup is expected to last until noon. 

Department of Public Works (DPW) Superintendent Mike Campbell will provide volunteers with all the supplies needed, including bags and gloves.

Volunteers will be assigned to locations at Maclearie Park, Silver Lake, E Street Park and individual streets. 

Partcipants are being advised to wear clothes suitable for working outdoors.

All volunteers will be entered to win a season beach badge and other prizes. 

Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The makeover is a great opportunity for students to earn service hours, officials said.
