Belmar Looking for Artists to Design Train Station Mural

A competition coordinated by the Belmar Arts Council will paint a mural on the Belmar Train Station.

Submissions to the contest can roll in through 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

The arts council had arranged many mural projects in Belmar previously, most recently painting the concrete dividers that closed the beachfront while Ocean Avenue repairs were made this winter after Hurricane Sandy.

But now the idea is to beautify the train station. The project specifications and submission details are all on the Belmar Arts Council website, here.
Designs that feature what makes Belmar unique and special, whether depicting its natural history, local pride, or other landmarks, are encouraged.

The NJ Transit Train Station between 8th and 10th Avenues will be painted with the winning design. According to the arts council: "The Train Station Mural Project will engage professional and amateur artists and local adults and children, to create a public artwork that will inspire pride, optimism and a sense of community for residents and visitors in our continued recovery effort."

The project will be administered by the Belmar Arts Council, which will coordinate with muralists, funders, administration and community members to implement the project.

There's a $500 prize for the winning design.
