NRA NEWS CONFERENCE - MY COMMENTARY

NRA NEWS CONFERENCE - THE NRA SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT BEFORE MAKING SUCH PRONOUCEMENTS ON THE EVENTS AT A TOWN CALLED NEWTOWN CT.

Toady the NRA went before the media to offer its recommendations regarding the loss of 26 lives in Newtown Ct.

Below are my comments in response to their offering:

NRA NEWS CONFERENCE
MY THOUGHTS

NRA POSITION:
The only way ... to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection," LaPierre said. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather ... have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away or from a minute away?"

WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE SAID:
THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS A BAD GUY WITH A GUN, IS NOT TO ALLOW HIM TO HAVE A WEAPON IN THE FIRST PLACE. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO A WEAPON WHICH IS CAPABLE OF FIRING HUNDRED ROUNDS OF BULLETS AND WAS DESIGNED TO KILL ALL IN ITS PATH .

WHAT THE NRA DOES:
THE NRA POLITICAL ARM SPENDS MILLIONS TO ELECT POLITICIANS TO PROTECT THEIR AGENDA.

WHAT THE NRA POLITICAL ARM SHOULD DO:
DISBAND & DONATE ALL ITS FUNDS TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN, DONATE MONEY TO MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS, SUPPORT LAWS WHICH PREVENT THE KILLING OF OUR CHILDREN, RATHER THAN THEIR LOBBY GOALS.

WHAT THE NRA SAYS:
IT IS EVERYONE ELSE'S FAULT—THEY ACCEPT NO RESPSONBILITY FOR THE GUN MENTALITY THEY HELP TO FOSTER AND THE MILLIONS SPENT TO LOBBY FOR LEGISLATION WHICH SUPPORTS THEIR AGENDA AND PROTECTS THEIR MEMBERS

WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE SAID:
WE WILL SUPPORT ALL CHANGES PROPOSED BY THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS TO SAVE THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN

You say STOP the bad guy from having the gun to begin with. Great idea, but bad guys do not follow rules. You could outlaw all weapons in this country and bad guys will still have guns. Bad guys have more sources at getting guns then our own government does. Just look in the cities, bad guys have more assult weapons then the police do. These weapons come into this country on a daily basis. You outlaw these weapons in this country and bad guys will still have assult weapons. The change in guns laws only hurt hunters and legitimite gun owners.

Thank you for the comment, what is at issue here is the aggressive stand that the NRA, and the VP and Board of the NRA have expressed. Rather then taking a leadership role in protecting our children and grandchildren, they go before a microphone and make a veiled threat aganist those politicans who would seek to change the laws. They imply they will be punished was very evident in this news conference. The image of an America where Guns are the only answer, is not what many wished to hear in the aftermath of 20 children being murdered. There are additional questions/answers to the issue of assault weapons, no one can make a valid argument to me that a hunter or licensed gun owner needs to have one in his/her posession That is my personal opinion, and you are entiltled to disagree with it. That is not to say that a "black market' would not exist, I am sure it would, but this is a clear choice between taking affirmative actions to save lives, vs defending an organization which has yielded far to much influence in Washington DC and in the politics of this nation, for to long a time. The NRA Management seems to have a real disconnect with its membership. Why would anyone place a higher value on what hunters and gun owners seek to promote thru the NRA then the rights of our childen not to be murdered? This debate should not be decided by the NRA Lobbyist in DC

This is insane, as the the State of Conn. takes up the discussion on changes to its guns laws, the Colt Gun Company in Hartford Ct, and its spokesperson, Carlton S. Chen a VP threatens to move the Company, if any new legisation is enacted. Just want the people of Newtown and Conn, wish to hear, take aways jobs, rather than protecting the lives of children and grandchildren, give someone else another reason to pick up a assault weapon and go out and get revenge for a percieved injustice. What ever the Governor of Texas, and the Leadership of the NRA who propose more guns and concealed weapons are eating & drinking it must be contagious, the Colt Gun Company has been infected too.

Thanks for the genuine thoughtful commentary, rare in these parts.

Ban them! Noone needs military style weapons but the military. If you can't get by with a shotgun or a hunting rifle then you have a problem.
