NJ Sandcastle Contest in Belmar Wednesday

26th Annual event set for 8 a.m. at 18th Ave. beach

The New Jersey Sandcastle Contest is back in Belmar for its 26th year Wednesday, July 18. 

The contest kicks off at 8 a.m. at 18th Avenue Beach in Belmar, and judging begins at noon, organizers said. 

This year's contest, presented by the Belmar Tourism Commission, is sponsored by D'Jais and several other local businesses. 

Contestants can register on site beginning at 8 a.m.

The competition is free and open to participants of all ages, organizers said.

Three prize places are awarded in six individual categories:

  • 7 and younger
  • 8 to 11
  • 12 to 15
  • 16 and older
  • Family
  • Group/Day Camp

There is also a "Best on the Beach" award.

In addition, there will be free giveaways, drinks, snacks, music and more, according to organizers.
