It was the team's best performance ever, report says

The Manasquan High School surfing team recently competed in the 2014 NSSA National High School Surfing Championships at Salt Creek in Dana Point, Calif., according to a reader-submitted report on APP.com.

According to Donna Fortney, Parent Group President for the team, Manasquan's surfers came in 12th of 16 teams competing, the team's best finish ever.

Both the varsity and JV teams competed, the report said, with Brad Schambach winning a trophy in the JV longboard category.

According to the surf team's website, the California competition came after the team's best season ever:

  • Rumble at Remsen – Squan vs. Wall – winning the 1st ever meet between the 2 schools!
  • Biggest Big Sea Day Surf Contest EVER! Biggest team to date with 40 + surfers including 10 ladies!
  • Fall Awards Night Winners – Liam Mahoney, Sara Hegna and Most Improved Surfer Shane Finn.
