Frulio Not Being Brought Back as St. Rose Head Coach

Baseball coach went 39-12 in two seasons with Purple Roses

Jerry Frulio confirmed on Thursday morning that he is not being brought back as St. Rose's baseball coach after going 39-12 in two seasons, including a 22-4 campaign this spring.

Frulio said he was told the program "was moving in a different direction.''

"To me, it had nothing to do with the product we put out on the field,'' Frulio said.

St. Rose athletic director Joe Lafferty said that it was school policy that he could not comment on personnel decisions.

The Purple Roses won the Class B Central overall title, reached the quarterfinals of the Shore Conference Tournament and made the NJSIAA Non-Public South B semifinals this season.

Frulio, who is a Central Regional graduate and former head coach of the Golden Eagles, took over at St. Rose for former head coach/athletic director Jim Agnello when Agnello resigned in 2010 to spend more time with his family and pursue his baseball academy business. Frulio was an assistant under Agnello when the Purple Roses won two straight Non-Public B titles in 2008-09, and he led the Purple Roses to the Non-Public South B final in 2010.

Frulio said that no members of his assistant coaching staff will be brought back either.

"Obviously it was a great run, and I am forever grateful for Jimmy Agnello for bringing me on and giving me the chance,'' Frulio said. "I got to work with some amazing baseball players and made some great relationships. I don't regret it. The only thing I regret is not being asked to continue.''

The Purple Roses will now be searching for their third coach in four years at one of the Shore Conference's perennially strong programs.

Frulio said that he is not actively seeking a coaching job with another Shore Conference team at this time, but said, "if something down the line falls in my lap, I will pursue it.''
