Belmar Cage Fighter To Help Battle Cancer

A Belmar mixed martial arts fighter is scheduled for a charity cage fight to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Kendrick Mendez, who trains at the Kurt Pellegrino center in Belmar, will take on undefeated Juan Galarza, out of the Silver Fox Brazillian Jiu-Jitzu center of Saddle Brook, at Brookdale Community College on Dec. 20.

The Gold Medal MMA fight will take place at Brookdale’s newly renovated Robert J. Collins Arena. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.goldmedalmma.com/. Doors open at 6 p.m. The first bout begins at 7 p.m. Ten percent of the ticket sales will go to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Mendez -- 6’0, 175 pounds --  has a 2-0-1 record. Galarza -- 5’11, 167 pounds -- is undefeated at 4-0.
