Superintendent's 'Performance' Subject of Tuesday's Manasquan BOE Meeting

Special closed session called by BOE president after news broke last month that one member filed a police complaint against another.

Just weeks after Manasquan School Board President Michelle LaSala said to discover Board Member Christine Muly filed a complaint with borough police against Mike Shelton, one of the board's , the school board will meet in closed session Tuesday to discuss the performance of Schools Superintendent Geraldine Margin. 

LaSala, who recently declined to comment on the special meeting, said late last month that she would try to call a special emergency meeting after it came to light that Muly in early June filed an harassment complaint against Shelton with Manasquan police, weeks before he was appointed to fill a vacancy on the school board. 

According to the police report, Shelton sent an email June 4 to board Attorney R. Armen McComber asking Muly to resign or he would file various criminal, civil and ethics charges against the former board president, who from that post in January citing harassment from unnamed board members.

McComber on June 5 forwarded Shelton's email to Margin, who then handed it over to Muly on an unspecified date between then and June 12, when the veteran board member brought the complaint to Manasquan Police, the report says. 

John Loughrey of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Special Prosecutions Unit, contacted by a borough detective regarding Muly's complaint, said that as a board member Muly was "subject to public scrutiny" and that Shelton's actions were legal and "in his rights to do so," the report says.
