A special executive meeting of the Manasquan school board Thursday picked LaPrete for the interim role. The next public board meeting of the Manasquan school board is June 25.

In September 2012, the board unanimously confirmed Robert J. Mahon as acting superintendent of schools, hours after district staff were notified that former schools chief Geraldine Margin was going on administrative leave effective immediately.

Mahon, the current mayor of Avon-By-The-Sea who also served as interm superintendent of the Spring Lake Heights school district through June, has been earning a state-mandated fee of $605.77 per day as acting schools chief, officials said.

At a spring school board meeting, Mahon advised the district to find another interim superintendent if it had not named a superintendent by the time his one-year contract was up.

The board began searching for an interim superintendent, as the seach for the next superintendent runs concurrently.

At the previous board meeting, the consulting firm hired to outline what the district wants in a superintendent gave an initial report on its findings.
