Manasquan High School to Add Emergency System

New system will include equipping 6 personnel with mobile alarm buttons

An $11,000 system to better alert police of emergencies at the high school comes as a donation from Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.

Called Wave Plus, the system gives Manasquan high school a stationary emergency button that will alert Manasquan and Brielle Police that an incident is unfolding in the building. Several personnel will also be equipped with emergency buttons on lanyards.

The stationary and remote buttons will enable a more immediate response from Manasquan Police, or mutual aid from Brielle, one of Manasquan High School's sending districts, said Board Member Michael Shelton in his building and grounds committee report.

School personnel can push these panic buttons and alert police, emergency responders and main office. Ten systems were recently purchased by the county and Manasquan was chosen to receive one of them.

The system is completely wireless. It activates an alert if an incident is non-medical and threatening.

"It is our belief Wave will greatly enhance safety of Manasquan High School," Shelton said. The district has been looking at its safety and security in light of tragedies such as Newtown high school when the county sheriff came along to donate the system to the district.

Shelton said the Wave system also allows the district to program email and text notification of emergency news.

The system that's been donated includes a 100-zone control panel, six button pendant alarms with lanyards, a radio interface, programming for email and text notification and a 36-hour battery backup system.

The value of the donation is $11,081.89.
