Manasquan High School Graded on State Report Card

The New Jersey Department of Education has released their 2010 School Report Cards

Data contained in the New Jersey Department of Education's 2010 School Report Card shows Manasquan High School on par with schools throughout the state in some areas and excelling beyond the state average in other areas.

The state releases the reports annually. They are intended to provide residents with a means of tracking school achievement and progress.

  • The length of Manasquan's school day, 6 hours 52 minutes, in on par with the state average of 6 hours 53 minutes.
  • Manasquan High School's class sizes are somewhat larger than the state average. The average Grade 9 class size at Manasquan is 23.8 while the state average is 19.5. The average Grade 10 class has 25.8 students compared to a 19.8 student state average. For Grade 11, 21.7 is the Manasquan average class size. The state average is 19.6. Manasquan's average Grade 12 size is 23.9 while the state average is only 19.7. Manasquan had an average of 4.8 special education students in specialized classes, which is on par with the 5.0 state average. Together, these figures average out to a school-wide average class size of 22.1 at Manasquan High School. The state average is 18.2. 
  • The school has a 11.9 to 1 student to faculty ratio, compared to a 10.8 to 1 state average.
  • Students at Manasquan High School see 40 minutes less instructional time compared to the rest of New Jersey. Full-time students at Manasquan are engaged in instructional activities for 5 hours 15 minutes of their 6 hour 52 minute school day. The state average instructional time is 5 hours 56 minutes of a 6 hour 53 minute school day.
  • Students at Manasquan High School have more access to computers and the internet than others in the state. The school boasts a 4.2 to 1 student to computer ratio while the state average is only 3.1. Of the 234 computers accounted for in the state report card, all have internet connections.
  • Enrollment has slowly decreased in recent years at the school. Manasquan's total enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year was 992.5. For 2008-2009, that figure was 1,1016. Enrollment was 1,012 in 2007-2008 and 1,029 in 2006-2007.
  • English is the first language spoken at home for 99.2 percent of Manasquan High School students.
  • An area where Manasquan High School students excelled was in standardized tests. Results from the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) test were previously reported on Monmouth Shore Patch.
  • On the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), Manasquan students performed below the state average in Mathematics and above average in the Verbal and Essay sections. The state average on the Mathematics portion is 520. Manasquan's average score was 511. The state average on the Verbal section was 497. Manasquan's average score was 498. The state average on the Essay portion was 499. Manasquan's average score was 507.
  • All 143 students in Advanced Placement (AP) classes took AP tests and 2 students not enrolled in AP classes also took tests. A total of 97 tests resulted in passing scores of 3 or higher. 20.3 percent of Manasquan High School 11th and 12th graders participate in AP programs compared to a state average of 19.9 percent.
  • Manasquan's dropout rate was only 1.1 percent compared to a state average of 1.7. The school's graduation rate of 98.3 percent is higher than the state average 94.7 percent.
  • Of those who graduated from Manasquan High School in 2010, 51.9 planned to attend a four-year college or university and 29.3 percent planned to attend a two-year college. 
  • Of the school's total expenditures, 53 percent goes to pay for teacher salaries and benefits. The state average is 55 percent. 11 percent of Manasquan's expenditures pay for administrator salaries and benefits. The state average is 8 percent.
  • The total cost per pupil at Manasquan High School was $13,651 for the 2009-2010 school year. The state average was $15,538.
