Manasquan H.S. Girls Hoops Coach Resigns

Felix Romero steps down barely a month after championship season

Manasquan High School Girls Basketball Coach Felix Romero resigned from his post Saturday, the APP's Josh Newman tweeted over the weekend.

Romero led the Lady Warriors to their first-ever state title last month and follows assistant coach Tom Flaherty,  in January, out the door.

Romero could not be reached for comment Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

School Board President Michelle LaSala said that by law she could not comment on personnel matters regarding the district.

Both Romero and Flaherty helped turn the girls program into a basketball powerhouse when they took over three years ago.

Flaherty, who according to officials was released due to "administrative" reasons, was not given an explanation until nearly a month after his termination.

The district, however, mailed Flaherty a letter shortly after his release, accusing the coach of holding illegal practices with players, Flaherty has said.

Patch will provide updates as they develop.
