Sea Girt Dedicates World Trade Center Steel And 9/11 Memorial

World Trade Center steel built into a 9/11 memorial dedicated Monday in Sea Girt.

Just days before the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Borough of Sea Girt dedicated a new memorial to the victims.

The memorial, which includes a piece of World Trade Center steel taken from the wreckage of the two buildings following the attacks, was dedicated in a somber ceremony outside Borough Hall.

It was attended by some family members of those killed in the attack, including Marge Mathers, whose husband, Charles W. "Chuck'' Mathers, was killed in the World Trade Center.

Charles Mathers was one of four Sea Girt residents who died on 9/11/01. Others include Edward A. "Ted" Brennan III, Thomas J Cahill and William A. Mathesen.

Acting Governor Kim Guadagno, among those who spoke at the hour-long ceremony, said that the memorial was a mark of sadness and a reason for hope.

"It's not just representative of a horrific crime,'' Guadagno said. "It's representative of a fabulous story of courage, which is what you want your children to remember."
