Route 35 Ramps Near Avon Closed Until Oct. 26

Connections with Sylvania Avenue, Memorial Drive closed for structural painting work

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that beginning Tuesday night two Route 35 ramp connections in Neptune City would be closed to traffic through the end of next week.

Structural steel bridge painting work will fully close the Route 35 southbound loop for Sylvania Avenue into Avon-By-The-Sea, and the Memorial Drive southbound connection to Route 35 at the same interchange, the DOT says in a release.

The ramps are expected to reopen Friday, Oct. 26, the release says.

“Closing the ramps around-the-clock will help the contractor accelerate structural steel painting work to address the bridge that carries Route 35 northbound over both of these ramps,” the release says.

If the bridge painting work is finished earlier than anticipated, the ramps will be reopened accordingly, the release says. 

During the ramp closures, the DOT instructs:

  • Route 35 southbound motorists destined for Avon by the Sea will continue south and use the dedicated U-turn ramp located just south of Midway Ice, before the Shark River bridge, to Route 35 northbound to the Sylvania Avenue ramp.
  • Memorial Drive motorists destined for Route 35 southbound will be directed to use the ramp for Route 35 northbound to Morris Avenue to U-turn onto Route 35 southbound.
