Rain Or Not, Parade Must Go On

No rain date scheduled for Belmar Saint Patrick's Day Parade despite forecast

Even if it rains on their parade, Belmar will not let it rain on their parade.

The Belmar-Lake Como Saint Patrick's Day Parade, which is set to take downtown Belmar by storm on Sunday, may do just that— with a gloomy forecast on the horizon.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain that could become heavy at times with a high temperature near 53 degrees. The probability of precipitation is 100 percent and rainfall could likely total between a quarter and a half inch.

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty explained that there is no scheduled rain date for the parade and that there never has been in the 37 years the parade has been running.

Hundreds of marchers and thousands of revelers flock to the borough each year to partake in the festivities and despite the forecast, officials are hopeful that will still be the case.

At the March 2 meeting of the Belmar Mayor and Council, Doherty made one request of those in attendance: "Pray for good weather."
