Races set for November elections

There were no major surprises in local primary elections Tuesday.

In Belmar, James Bean Jr. won the Republican nomination for a full term on the borough council with 60 votes.

There were 16 write-in votes for the Republican nomination for a one-year unexpired term. The write-in names are not known as of this report. Republican Steve Edelman filed a petition for the nomination.

On the Democrat side, Concetta Gutierrez won the Democratic nomination for a full term on the borough council with 88 votes.

Councilwoman Jennifer Nicolay won the Democratic nomination for a one-year unexpired term on the council with 88 votes.

In Manasquan, Councilwoman Patricia Connolly took the first step in her campaign for mayor by securing the Republican nomination with 201 votes.

Richard Norris received 171 votes on his way to becoming the Republican nominee for borough council.

Incumbent Mayor George Dempsey received 68 votes and will be the Democratic candidate for mayor in November.

Former council members Joseph Bossone and Michael Mangan received 61 and 65 votes respectively and will both be on the ballot as Democratic candidates for borough council in November.

No independents filed in either town.
