Nicolay Reminds Residents About Upcoming Summer Events

Belmar councilwoman eagerly spoke of future events in the borough

Councilwoman Jennifer Nicolay reminded residents at the recent council meeting that the next few months are filled with events that are unique to the borough of Belmar.

“I just wanted to let everyone know about some upcoming events were have going on,” Nicolay said. “People often say there’s not much to do, and I filled an entire page of events.

“We have social dancing every Thursday evening at Taylor Pavilion in July and August,” she continued. “This has been running for over 40 years.”

Also at Pyanoe Plaza, a Friday night concert series will run every Friday night through September, beginning at 7 p.m.

The borough also will host movies on the beach every Sunday until September, at 8th Avenue, at dusk.

“One special thing I was able to attend today was the Belmar Junior Lifeguard program,” Nicolay said. “It has been running for over 20 years and it started yesterday. It will run four weeks, four days a week.

“It’s a great program for 10 to 17 year olds. It costs just $65 but it teaches water safety, first-aid techniques, self confidence and helps prepare anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard, which our town always needs,” Nicolay said.

Also at Taylor Pavilion, children grades one through six will be able to participate in an arts and crafts gathering.

Monday through Wednesday, first and second graders can participate. Wednesday through Friday, fourth, fifth and six grade students can attend from 10 a.m. until noon.

“We also have coming up this weekend the Belmar 5, which every one is familiar with,” Nicolay said. “That’s this Saturday, July 9 up at Ocean Avenue.

“Also, the evening before, is a great event for the children [ages] 1 to 14 at Silver Lake. It’s the Belmar Kids Races, where they all get t-shirts, medals and refreshments. A movie will be shown after that and a large fireworks display will end the night,” she continued.

Lastly, the sand castle contest will be held next Wednesday, July 13 from 8 a.m. to noon.

“I hope you can come to one if not many of these events and programs that Belmar is known for and are a special part of our community,” Nicolay said. “Complete lists of everything can be found in local establishments, in the lobby [at ], and up at Taylor Pavilion they have a nice board of all the event and program fliers.”
