Manasquan To Award Bids for Beachfront Buildings Destroyed By Sandy

Council meets 7 p.m. Monday March 18

Beachfront municipal buildings damaged or demolished after Hurricane Sandy will be rebuilt in Manasquan, with the borough council awarding contracts for the work at tonight's meeting.

Manasquan Borough Council will meet at 7 p.m. March 18 for a workshop and then a regular meeting in borough hall. The agenda includes picking the contractor for the beachfront work.

Three bids were received for the project, which would rebuild the inlet comfort station and gazebo improvements on Riverside Drive, the restroom and lifeguard building on Ocean Avenue, and the beach department building on Second Avenue. The option to bid on the Riddle Way gazebo improvements was also optioned in the bid.

The borough engineer estimated the work would come in at $437,000. The lowest bid is $316,000.

Also at the borough council meeting, officials will discuss requests to temporarily move homes on municipal land while a home is being raised.

A discussion on the cost for the public to rent lockers at the SeaWatch is also on the agenda. The previous vendor backed out and the borough is now re-establishing what fees should be.
