Manasquan Officials Screening Hurricane Sandy Bills

Borough administrator working with League of Municipalities

The flood of legislation proposed after Hurricane Sandy — everything from dune rebuilding to home elevations — needs local towns wading through and screening the bills, and the New Jersey League of Municipalities has picked Manasquan to help screen the proposals.

Manasquan Borough Administrator Joe DeIorio said that after his attendance at a state committee meeting on dunes, the NJ league asked for Manasquan’s assistance seeing how local town governance would be impacted by the multiple bills proposed.

DeIorio said town officials will be receiving a large packet of all the proposed bills the League is hoping to keep an eye on, and will weigh in on the impact.

Among the proposals is if towns should be able to give county control of beach operations,  how permits should be filed for rebuilding, and what dune systems should be in place along the Jersey Shore.
