Housing Rehabilitation Program grants up to $25k for repairs

Manasquan property owners looking to improve their homes may be elgible for up to $25,000 in assistance from the borough's Housing Rehabilitation Program, officials said Wednesday. 

The program, funded by the municipality through its state-mandated Mount Laurel requirement, offers assistance on home repairs to households earning between $51,000 and $96,000, Borough Administrator Joe DeIorio said in a release. 

A single homeowner earning $51,179 up to a household of eight earning $96,509 are eligible for assistance, DeIorio said.

The resident homeowner must also be up-to-date with mortgage payments, water/sewer, and real estate taxes, DeIorio said.

The number of approved applications, however, is limited, DeIorio said.

“Many residents have participated in the past for much needed repairs that they could not otherwise afford," Mayor George Dempsey said in the release. “Most importantly the cost of the program is paid through developer fees and not budgeted taxpayer dollars.” 

Residents interested can download the information form including detailed income eligibility amounts through the website at www.manasquan-nj.com and return it to the Monmouth County Housing Improvement Program, Hall of Records Annex, 1 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728.
