Longtime Volunteer Retires from Squan Recreation Committee

Borough Council accepts resignation of Ron Gaffney

Longtime volunteer Ron Gaffney is stepping down from the Manasquan Recreation Commission after two decades of service.

Mayor George Dempsey Jr. announced Gaffney's retirement from the commission, where he served for 20 years.

"After 20 years, he's decided its time to retire," Dempsey said.

Among the many projects Gaffney contributed to was the annual April Fool's Race, a fundraiser for the recreation building.

Annual Fool's Run 5K, created more than 15 years ago, serves as a fundraiser for the Manansquan Recreation Commission's Recreation Building Fund with the end goal of a constructing new recreation facility within the borough.

At Wednesday's borough council meeting, mayor and council accepted Gaffney's resignation, and publicly thanked him for his service.
