Belmar's governing body on Wednesday suspended The Barclay's liquor license for seven days.

The banquet hall was charged by Belmar Police with violating their liquor license for holding a public auction on June 14, 2011 and serving alcohol to members of the public during the Seafood Festival on June 11, 2011.

The Barclay's owner admitted on Wednesday that a public auction was held last summer but denied serving drinks to members of the public.

During the Seafood Festival in 2011, the banquet hall provided a hospitality function for VIPs from the festival, according to witness testimony.

Belmar Police, however, received reports the banquet hall had opened the bar that day to the general public. The Barclay owner on Wednesday denied the allegation, but the governing body sided with the borough's police report.
