Four Water Main Breaks in Manasquan Since November

A series of unrelated water main breaks in Manasquan since Hurricane Sandy have occurred throughout different points in the borough, leading some residents to complain of conditions.

The first occurred days after the Oct. 29 storm, on Sea Girt Avenue on Nov. 2

Two incidents were reported within 24 hours of each other last month. One was on Fourth near Long, Nov. 20; the second was on Main Street and Simms Nov. 21.

In addition, the major fire on First Avenue in early December taxed the water system, resulting in a disruption of some service, said Manasquan Borough Administrator DeIorio.

The most recent water main break was on Brielle, on Dec. 13.

DeIorio said repairs were made following each of the incidents.

Future repairs to the water and sewer systems are up for consideration, at $748,000, but DeIorio itemized the costs for water meter replacement, flooded lift stations, and flooded generators.

DeIorio reported each of the incidents at Monday’s borough council meeting after two residents inquired what could be done after they experienced poor water quality.
