Due to Hurricane Sandy, State Offers Tax Assistance Help in Manasquan Tuesday

Governor Christie's ongoing efforts to bring government services
directly to those who suffered damage or disruption in their lives due
to Superstorm Sandy has been expanded by adding two additional free
tax assistance outreach events in Monmouth and Atlantic counties.

The next event will be held in Manasquan in Monmouth County on Tuesday, March 12, at Manasquan Borough Hall between 6 and 8:30 p.m.

A total of eleven outreach assessment events are being held around the
state during February and March, the height of tax season, to help
individuals and businesses prepare their 2012 tax returns.

The events have been organized by the Treasury Department's Division
of Taxation and for the convenience of the public, they are being held
either in towns that suffered heavy damage during Sandy or adjacent
communities. The events are being held at libraries or municipal or
other public buildings and have all been scheduled during evening or
weekend hours.

"These tax assistance events will provide New Jersey residents with
the opportunity to obtain free in-person guidance from tax
professionals from the Division and the Internal Revenue Service on a
wide range of Sandy-related issues," said State Treasurer Andrew
Sidamon-Eristoff.

The events are also being supported by the AARP's Tax-Aide program and
the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Experts will
be available to assist residents with inquiries on how to report
Sandy-related personal and business losses on their federal and New
Jersey tax returns, how to deal with property tax issues caused by
Sandy-related damage and how to recover lost tax documents or
reconstruct lost personal or business records and many other topics.

The next event will be held Thursday, March 14, in Bradley Beach, Monday, March 18 at the Ocean County Library branch in Toms River and Tuesday, March 26 at the Ocean County Library branch in Brick. The first event was held on Saturday, February 16, at the Fairview Public Library.

Along with tax assistance, the events will also offer opportunities
for out-of-state contractors and other businesses working temporarily
in New Jersey on post-Sandy clean-up and reconstruction projects to
register their businesses with Treasury's Division of Revenue and
Enterprise Services.
