Belmar, Spring Lake to Share Court Facilities
Spring Lake gives six months notice of termination to Spring Lake Heights
The boroughs of Belmar and Spring Lake will pen a deal for shared court services.
At the March 22 meeting of the Spring Lake Mayor and Council, the governing body unanimously passed a resolution giving notice of termination to Spring Lake Heights, with whom Spring Lake previously shared court services.
Though there are still details to be worked out, Borough Administrator Bryan Dempsey estimated that the move would save Spring Lake between 20 and 30 thousand dollars per year.

Previously, Spring Lake paid Spring Lake Heights roughly $100,000 per year for the use of its court. Spring Lake is required by law to provide six months notice to Spring Lake Heights before terminating their interlocal agreement.
In their deal with Belmar, Spring Lake will maintain their own judge, George C. Pappas, and prosecutor.

Mayor Jennifer Naughton explained that the move was not related to the quality of service they received in Spring Lake Heights, but was strictly a cost-saving measure.
