UPDATE: Belmar Council Not Voting on 10th Ave. Burrito Liquor License Monday

Mexi-Cali restaurant didn't post notice two weeks prior to vote; postponed to July 18

Belmar officials announced Monday afternoon that the governing body's scheduled vote for later that day to approve a deal transfering a liquor license to 10th Ave. Burrito is postponed to July 18.

The mayor and council had scheduled a special meeting for July 2 intended to authorize a deal between the former Tropical Pub and 10th Ave. Burrito, but after officials learned the Mexi-Cali-style restaurant hadn't posted notice of agreement at least two weeks prior to the vote, the governing body pushed the agenda item to its July 18 meeting, Mayor Matt Doherty said Monday.

10th Ave. Burrito, which just changed locations from its spot in the Belmar Plaza to another, much larger, home in the same shopping center, has been waiting to open its new bar section adjacent to the dining room.

The Belmar Police Department last week approved an agreement that would transfer the license from Encumbrance, Inc. (the former Tropical Pub) to The Irish Curse, LLC (10th Ave. Burrito), according to Mayor Matt Doherty and documents.

The governing body usually votes to approve liquor licenses during its regular meetings, but in order to get the restaurant's bar up and running by the July 4 holiday, Doherty said officials has decided to call a special meeting July 2.

While the vote is scrapped from the agenda, Monday's meeting is still scheduled for 5 p.m. at , where the governing body is expected to vote on a resolution authorizing the refinancing of $4.5 million in bond debt.

Doherty said the move to a lower rate would save the borough money.
