Dangerously cold temperatures, high winds, snow predicted

Throw another log on the fire.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow and bitterly cold temperatures, beginning Thursday afternoon.

As reports for the potential for significant snow and flooding Thursday to Friday continue, Manasquan officials asked people to turn to Manasquan's Facebook page and Manasquan OEM Twitter,  as well as 1620AM and Cablevision 77 and FIOS 28.

Please do not call the Police Department for weather related updates unless it is an emergency.

Thursday will begin with a chance of rain, cloudy skies,  a high near 42 degrees and northeast winds between 13 to 20 miles an hour, with gusts up to 30 possible.

Conditions will turn nasty Thursday night, with a sudden drop in temperatures, all the way down to 16 degrees. Between one to four inches of snow is possible, according to the NWS.

Very cold temperatures and low wind chills are expected to begin Thursday night and continue into Friday night and Saturday morning.

Winds will be from the north Thursday night, increasing to 23 to 28 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 39 miles per hour. Snow is likely Friday morning.

Skies will turn partly sunny later on Friday, but a high of only 19 degrees is expected. Friday night will be clear, with a low of 8 degrees. Winds will shift to the northwest at 22 to 25 miles per hour.

"The combination of cold temperatures and bluster winds will lead to wind chill values near or below zero during this period," the NWS website states.

There is also a potential for coastal flooding during the high tide on Friday morning, according to the NWS.
