Wall Police: Child Asleep in Same Room While Mother Was Sexually Assaulted

Weekend incident took place in hotel room, police say

Wall Police have charged a West Berlin man with child endangerment and aggravated sexual assault after an alleged incident this weekend in a Wall hotel room.

Wall Police Sgt. Erik Ertle said the victim was sexually assaulted in a hotel room and her child was in the same room, asleep, late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

James Dragani, 33, of West Berlin, was arrested Tuesday, and charged with one count of second degree aggravated sexual assault, and one count of child endangerment, a third degree offense.

"The victim’s child was in the room at the time however, investigators believe the child was asleep during the time of the assault and was not harmed," Ertle said in a police press release.

Dragani was arrested Tuesday and processed at Monmouth County Jail in default of $250,000 bail with no 10 percent option. Wall Township Detective Elio Scarpa was the arresting officer.
