Vehicle Collision in Brielle Under Investigation

A two-car accident on Route 71 in Brielle is being investigated by police

A two-car accident in on Route 71 in Brielle near the intersection of Union Lane left two vehicles wrecked and closed traffic in both directions on the road.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday.

At least one victim required extrication. The number of victims in the accident and their conditions are currently unknown.

A white cargo van was on its side in the northbound lane. The vehicle had apparently collided with a maroon sedan. The accident occurred near the entrance and exit ramps for Route 35.

Shortly after 3 p.m. emergency crews from the Brielle Fire Department and Brielle First Aid Squad had closed off the scene while officers from the Brielle Police Department surveyed the damage.

One firefighter at the scene instructed reporters to call the Brielle Police Department for information.

A dispatcher from the Brielle Police Department, reached by telephone, said that the incident is being investigated and that the department has yet to release a statement.
