Thunderstorms Leave Nearly 8,000 Without Power in Monmouth
Howell, Freehold Township hit hardest; Manasquan and Belmar OK for now
Heavy winds downed wires across Monmouth County during Thursday’s severe thunderstorm. Nearly 8,000 residents lost power as of 8:30 p.m., according Jersey Central Power & Light’s outage map.
However, with the brunt of the storm yet to reach the Manasquan-Belmar area, the lights are on in most area homes. The lone exception is in Brielle and Spring Lake, where JCP&L reports outages for 192 and 39 customers, respectively.
As with the last summer storm to strike the area, Western Monmouth County was hardest hit. Over 2,300 Howell residents are in the dark. Some 1,300 outages were reported in Freehold Township and 951 in Marlboro. JCP&L reported 482 customers without service in Millstone

Other parts of the county did not escape unscathed. Neptune had nearly 1,000 households left without power and Tinton Falls had over 700. In Shrewsbury Township and Shrewsbury Borough, over 400 were in the dark
As of 8:30 p.m., Middletown had nearly 200 without power and Manalapan had 104.
