Staten Island Man Arrested on Crack Dealing Charges in Belmar

Also charged with aggravated assault on police officer, dealing within school zone

A Staten Island, N.Y., man is facing several charges in Superior Court after being arrested for alleged crack cocaine distribution Sunday in Belmar, documents show. 

Sulaeman A. Balogun, 19, of Park Hill Avenue, on July 29 was caught by police dealing crack cocaine within 1000 feet of Belmar Elementary School, on Main Street, the criminal complaint says. 

Balogun was found with a white, rock-like substance, individually bagged, believed to be crack cocaine, the complaint says.

Balogun tried to flee from police, who signaled him to stop his automobile, and later committed aggravated assault on an officer, causing him serious bodily injury, the complaint says. 

Balogun is also charged with attempting to conceal evidence by trying to swallow crack cocaine during the police investigation, the complaint says.

Balogun faces several charges stemming from the incident in Superior Court in Freehold. He is scheduled to make his first appearance Wednesday, Aug. 1.  

His bail has been set at $212,500, with no 10 percent option, court documents show.
